How big are the pockets on your Turnouts? As you can see above, the Scabbard is 9" long, and about 7" wide so your turnout pocket needs to be about 9" deep and 7" wide.
The Jake Knife is kind of crude and knobby, for reasons discussed on the HOME page. It would wear a hole in a turnout pocket in no time. Also, in a large Turnout Pocket, the Jake Knife will float around with the other stuff and will not be reliably in the same spot, readily accessible with a gloved hand. Also, if just put in a turnout pocket, the Jake Knife will snag on other stuff in the pocket, and drag other stuff out if the Jake Knife is needed.
For the above reasons, the Jake Knife is sold with a scabbard.
The Scabbard is made from 8 oz. oil tanned leather, the same leather used for wild-land fire boots. The Scabbard laces together, with leather shoe laces, in order that it can be readily opened for cleaning and drying should that be needed. There are two compartments in the Scabbard, one for the Jake Knife and another for a pair of large Lineman's pliers or similar sized tool. Additional lacing holes are in the Scabbard to improve the fit of the second tool.
The tabs you see are Velcro, and fold over the outside of the turnout pocket to attach to the Velcro on the outside of the pocket that holds the pocket flap down. This Velcro anchors the SCABBARD in the Turnout Pocket. The arrangement of the Velcro is such that either Hook or Loop on the Turnout Pocket can be accommodated.
The SCABBARD is also sold separately, and with a leather punch and laces can be adapted to carry other items, anchored in the Turnout Pocket.
